I just read that calculations have been wrong.
Scientists now estimate that not 800 000 l but 4 to 12.7 million liters come out of the BP-hole each day.
Now listen to this: they used chemicals on the surface to dissolve the oil
BUT according to the New York Times they fear that since they started doing this the oil has become heavier due to some chemical reaction. So guess what. It does not rise to the surface anymore.
Some other scientists now discovered one 16km x 5km x 500m oil bubble in deep sea and those oil bubbles are in 1km depth. they say the final solution – making another hole to release pressure – will take another 2 months
As an underwater environment polluted by oil cannot contain the necessary amount of oxygen anymore pretty much everything down there will be screwed sooner or later.
Of course noone talks about traveling oil bubbles yet … which i do not even want to think about either.
All this leads to a single question:
WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING?
It’s enough it took so long for all the US resources to get involved but where is the rest of the planet?
We are talking about a major catastrophe most likely much bigger than anything before that might possibly influence generations to come. Where is the U.N.? Where are all the resources and brains that allow us to start remote wars send people to other planets and all the other incredible things?
I have no answers to those simple questions but all i know is we will have to pay a huge price for our greed and stinginess and it is simply astonishing that even facing this disaster no official of neither the US government nor BP has the guts to stand up and admit the severity of this event and initiate whatever is needed to stop it.
