AsI focussed on the cappucino in front of me everything around me seemed to vanish. A perfectly crafted cup of white ceramic. Generations handed down the knowledge about crafting this solid white beauty so that I could enjoy it. My spoon scrapes off a bit of the chocolate covered foamed milk and as I taste it I feel joy.

I am thankful that God created animals which would allow us to use their milk. I can taste the work, effort and love the farmer invested to bring the final product to my table. Again I feel thankful to generations of ancestors who preserved and carefully improved traditions so that the present farmer could create this very milk I am enjoying.

I sense the energy of care and attention the waitor put into foaming the milk just for me. Every whirl of his hands. His life energy invested to give me a pleasurable experience. I exchange energy by paying the price that is requested.

As I take my first sip the flavour of roasted coffee beans fills up my whole being. I taste a direct connection to the earth that those coffee beans where grown on before someone carefully harvested and roasted them. The etheric component of the smell of roasted coffee accelerates the energy flow of my whole being as I can feel this metaphysical process slowly translating down to the physical realm where caffeine increases my bodie’s cardio-vascural activity.

I enjoy my cappucino like I never enjoyed a cappucino before and become aware of the huge amount of time I loose not being fully present with what is happening in the moment.

Out of the full energy of this moment nothing can be lost nor gained. Everything feels perfectly in place. Pure awareness and absolute strength. Nothing that is originated from within this space can ever be wrong. At least this is how it feels.

Once more this experience showed me how the lifestyles and environments we have created over centuries have deteriorated our original state. A state of perfection and harmlessness –of endless love and bliss.

When I was a child and teenager I didn’t really know what to achieve in life. Like most I had some phantasies about possibly adventurous professions such as inventor, emergency doctor or astronaut. However no material goals seemed to really motivate me and even though I knew that work is necessary I had no real aspirations of becoming a career-person because I just didn’t see a point in working for something I would have to loose anyway at the end of my life. At the same time I couldn’t just overcome those feelings and follow what others in my surrounding - say family or friends – would have wanted me to do. So I began to search for answers within me and in books, seminars, etc.

I started reading lots of spiritual books, went to many meetings with spiritual advisors, teachers and basically looked into everything that was available to me at that time to find an answer to that undefined longing inside of me. A longing for something bigger, something profounder – something worth investing lots of efforts, one job to finish in one lifetime. I found bits and pieces here and there: Tranquility in meditation techniques, understanding in seemingly never ending inner self-analysis and some meaning in greater concepts of ancient mystics of both east and west. Still there was something missing. THE goal. A goal that would motivate me beyond any doubt.

One day I visited a friend and I stumbled upon a book called “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Paramhansa Yogananda written in the late 1940s. The cover immediately attracted my attention. I had never heard of him or the book so I asked my friend about it. He said it would be a spiritual classic and that I should read it. So I did.

After a few pages it happened. There it was. The missing piece of information. Yogananda wrote about his desire of uniting himself with God, the divine spirit, the cosmic consciousness in and beyond all creation. I had never heard of that concept before but it felt so appealing so intriguing that my heart was filled with joy and I was excited. That’s what I want – I knew it. I finished the book in a fast pace and got to know that the path Yogananda followed was Kriya Yoga – an ancient science to evolve spiritually applying divine love into all aspects of one’s being and personality.

For sure I wanted to learn and start following exactly that way which seemed to have lead that Indian Yogi to success. So I started to sign up for some official organisations but did not really feel comfortable about it due to various reasons. I continued searching and found www.kriyayoga.com.

As I read the first pages I felt very uplifted and connected to a higher vibration. I soon started practicing and visited the author of the page and all my life changed.

I started to work hard and began incorporating love into more and more aspects of my life. Since then my primary goal has been to attain God union through Maha Samadhi. Sub-goals in order to achieve that main goal are partially based on Patanjali’s Yama and Niyama spiritual laws and partially on the logical consequences of the application of love in full. These sub goals include:

- Being 100% honest, sincere and truthful all the time

- Apply non-violence in all aspects of life

- Achieve physical, emotional and mental freedom from any entanglements

- Stay within my own limits

- Share all I have with whoever is in need

- Learn whatever needed to go on and progress in life

- Actively promote solutions of love and work for an improvement of life for all

- Understand, heal and dissolve all the causes of suffering and promote solutions

- Achieve and maintain a simple life in harmony with nature

- Accept responsibility for all I have ever done.

- Forgive whoever whenever needed

- I value loyalty and reliability in whatever I do and I believe in paying full attention to details and doing the best to achieve perfect results

I hope this short article has been inspiring for some of my readers to start defining or finding their own goals and values in life.

As I started practicing a “Bowing to the feet”-exercise recently I want to share three experiences related to it with you:

1. I talked to a young man belonging to the untouchable Dalit caste.
He had recently been assigned a wife by his parents and so far used to earn about 20 to 50 Nepali Rupees a day driving Riksha etc. (70 Rupees = 1USD)
His wife is pregnant but he is worried about the financial stability for his upcoming family life so I provided him with a decent amount. He was very happy. When I bowed to him he did not feel very well about it telling me that you only do this for sages and saints.

2. After sharing some food with an old man in the streets I bowed to him, he seemed to be happy about it although maybe not completely aware of what’s going on.

3. One of the organisations I am involved with here in Nepal takes care of inmate’s children. In the mornings the small children are picked up from the jail where their parents are imprisoned to spend the day in daycare. Some of the kids have a really aggressive mood. After spending some hours with one of the kids I said goodbye bowing to him. He was just about to hit me with a toy on my head when I bowed and he stopped. This was a nice experience.

I found this exercise really helpful especially when you begin to integrate it into your everyday life and start to meet every person with a bowing attitude.
